hugh murray
sound sculptor, field recordist & visual artist
about
creating a harmonious relationship between a collection of art mediums. delicate, abstract and unconventionally woven together, he creates from a place of sensitivity & eternal curiosity.
after recording vocal music for several years, hugh found himself on the west coast of canada. forming a deep connection with nature. he began experimenting with field recording. collecting sounds of natures beauty. working as a guide, as well as a way to observe & slow life down. field recording bloomed into an every day practice… ambient soundscapes took shape organically & since then hugh considers his work to be more like crafting a sound painting or audio collage rather than a formulated song.

(((dharma nature field notes))) a collection of field recordings over a few years time. i cherish sound & memory and view them in harmony. to capture sound is to believe that time is at its heart non-existent nor linear. we wake up to the sound of morning birds cooing, trees dancing in the autumn breeze. we all have sounds that remind us of a loved one or a dear friend. our childhood. the practice of field recording allows me to form a deep connection with my environment and the people that co-exist within. you love a tree, you love a person, you love a bird. there truly is symbiosis in all forms of life. thank you for lending your ears as we share this earth together. holding hands, grasping the dirt. \riverbend pOem/ .. .... ....... i still see you in dragonflies & butterflies in small birds , on backroads i ride my bicycle along you come once a year, greeting me with grace fluttering over my left shoulder, then swirling into the sky i think to myself will i feel your presence when spring comes & flowers bloom will i feel your warmth in mid summer sun will i ever see you again i close my hand around the dragonfly wings and hold my heart.

notes
songs... some sort of a song. not the song you sing. maybe the melodies you vision in your mind ~ they flow through your ears as you walk into an unfamiliar place. it makes you feel calm. some days the noise can provide comfort, other days it causes a bad headache... we live for ourselves, at least some of us. pure intentions lead you on a path of natural flow. the river never ends.
